To Have or To Hold - Leaving Legacy or Footprints

So... I accidentally bought rather a lot of crystals.

Not in a life-ruining way. Nobody needed to stage an intervention. But somewhere in the middle of preparing Season Two — learning video tools, building The Room, editing, publishing, being seen, and holding more creative stretch than expected — a suspicious number of shiny geological objects began appearing in the post.

At first glance, this might sound like an episode about collecting.

Crystals. Fossils. Meteorites. Coins. Books. Records. Fulgurite. The little private joy of arranging tiny pieces of the world around yourself and saying: “Ooh... look at this one.”

But this unplanned seventh episode revealed itself through real-life events, close attention, and the conversation that unfolded around them. The crystals were not really the centre of the story. They were the doorway.

A doorway into comfort during metamorphosis.

A doorway into collecting as a bounded field of wonder.

A doorway into objects as carriers of time, memory, continuity, and contact.

A doorway into the difference between having a life and holding one.

In this episode, Paul explores possession, stewardship, legacy, footprints, deep time, ordinary objects, forgotten lives, the baton of care, and the strange way finite things can help the infinite feel like adventure rather than overwhelm.

Because maybe life was never something we had.

Maybe life is something we are holding.

Briefly. Astonishingly. Imperfectly.

And maybe the point was never to become someone worth remembering.

Maybe it was simply to become someone worth being while we are here.
