To Know or Not To Know: Why Questions Outweigh Answers
I don't know.
Three little words that can feel surprisingly uncomfortable to say.
Especially when you've spent much of your life trying to understand everything.
In this tenth episode of Season Two, Paul explores knowledge, curiosity, uncertainty, imagination, and the strange realisation that the more we learn, the more we discover how much remains unknown.
Because knowing things is wonderful.
Answers help us navigate the world. They give us somewhere stable to stand, something reliable to build upon, and occasionally the reassurance that we have correctly identified which wire is live.
But what happens when an answer stops being something we use and becomes something we feel compelled to defend?
What happens when curiosity turns into certainty, or when the need to know prevents us from encountering something genuinely new?
Moving through perception, otherness, belief, parenting, inherited expectations, science, philosophy, the Hubble Deep Field, creative exploration, and the difference between imagination and evidence, this episode asks whether some questions might be more valuable left alive.
Not because answers don't matter.
Not because everything is equally unknowable.
And certainly not because imagination should be mistaken for proof.
But because some of life's most important questions aren't problems we solve once.
They're questions we live.
Questions we revisit as we grow, learn, change, and discover new perspectives.
Perhaps answers make good homes.
But questions make good roads.
And perhaps we don't need to understand the entire landscape before taking the next meaningful step.
We simply need enough knowledge to orient ourselves, enough discernment to recognise where certainty ends, and enough curiosity to keep exploring.
Because imagination is not belief.
Uncertainty is not failure.
And a blank space on the map doesn't always need to be filled.
Sometimes it is enough to say:
This is what I know.
This is what I think.
This is what I suspect.
And beyond here, I honestly don't know.
No gurus. No certainty. No final map.
Just a compass, a little curiosity, and enough room in the bag for what we haven't discovered yet.
